Australia's most extraordinary art event, the Archibald Prize, first awarded in 1921, is one of this country's oldest and most prestigious art awards. From its outset, the Archibald Prize has aroused controversy while chronicling the changing face of Australian society. Numerous legal battles and much debate have focused on the evolving definitions of portraiture. Bendigo Art Gallery is pleased to participate in the tour of the Archibald Prize as the exclusive Victorian venue, presented by the Principal Sponsor, Myer. Sizzling Cold Science Show: Bendigo winters can get very cold, but we have managed to get our hands on a substance that is much, much colder! Liquid Nitrogen is so cold that you can get frostbite from boiling it! These school holidays, come and see some seriously cool experiments as we fry eggs at -196 °C, hammer a nail made of Blu-Tack and shatter a banana - all with the help of liquid nitrogen! Show times: 12pm and 2pm
Saturn: A tale of two seasons In August this year, the Sun will shine directly onto Saturn's equator and then begin to illuminate the northern hemisphere for the first time in 16 years. The Cassini spacecraft, which has been orbiting Saturn for five years, will observe what effect the change of season will have on Saturn, as well as its rings and moons. Join us in the Bendigo Planetarium and find out what Cassini has already found and what we can expect to discover in the future. Show times: 11.30am and 1.30pm
Have you ever experienced zero gravity? While you're at Discovery don't forget to plummet down the southern hemisphere's tallest Vertical Slide. If you're a thrill seeker, the slide is definitely something that you will want to try! The Vertical Slide will be open at 11am, 1pm and 3pm daily.

Little Chinese Waist Drums Make the perfect noise maker
The little waist drum is designed to bring lots of joy to children in China. Chinese children play it just for fun in New Year or Spring Festival. It is a perfect noise-maker and a wonderful way for children to celebrate. Children can create their own little drum dance.

For over 40 years, architect Michael Reynolds has been teaching the world how to live sustainably, promoting a holistic way of living that involves natural and recycled materials, renewable energy and self-generated food and water supplies. Michael is a highly successful author, and has inspired a recent documentary, 'Garbage Warrior,' which celebrates his life and work.
