What is the difference between invention and innovation?

The Bendigo Inventor Awards Steering Committee defines invention as a new practical idea and innovation as an idea brought to market in a new way or the development of a new way of doing things, either inventive or innovative entries are encouraged.

The Awards aims to:

  1. Encourage innovation.
  2. Encourage the participation of people with practical ideas.
  3. Provide a source of security that will ensure these ideas will be properly protected (considering intellectual property, patents, etc.)
  4. Provide opportunity for practical inventions to be realised as innovation for commercial application.
  5. Provide business development support and mentorship for identified applicants to the Awards via Government funded programs and alignment with mentorship advice.
  6. Recognise and provide a strong link to the Central Victorian Region and community via innovation.
  7. Engage innovation as employment opportunity.

The Bendigo Inventor Awards are open to anyone from around the world who possesses an innovative invention. This could include engineers, students, scientists, technicians, creative people, entrepreneurs, individuals, companies, inventors and even backyard tinkerers.

Judging for the event will be conducted by a select panel in strict confidence. The Bendigo Inventor Awards culminate at the Exhibition and Awards Ceremony at the Bendigo Town Hall on 12 October 2012. This event will celebrate the entrant's achievements and exhibit a broad range of inventive and innovative ideas that have been identified through the Bendigo Inventor Awards process.
