Strathfieldsaye Recreation Reserve Play Space

The design for the new play space at Strathfieldsaye Recreation Reserve (Tannery Lane) is well underway. This district scale play space will provide a variety of play opportunities for the children and families of Strathfieldsaye. The play space is being designed internally by the Public Space Design Unit.

Thank you to those who have attended the public meeting on 1 December, or submitted a survey on this web page. Comments received during this consultation period will be considered and incorporated where possible. Construction documents will be drawn up ready for submission into the budget for the next financial year.

The draft concept plans were based upon feedback from the initial consultation period, and are found below.

Initial consultation with the community showed the following general preferences:

  • Skill enhancing, challenging, equipment based play and imaginative play the most popular
  • Seating and shade important to increase comfort for users
  • Some interest in the idea of “environmental education”, but balanced with mostly traditional equipment

These preference have been considered in balance with advice from a play space expert and budget constraints to develop a comprehensive plan for the site.

Other ideas received included drinking fountains, bike racks, fencing, natural play, bike track, and provision of more trees. All ideas that were submitted were considered and included wherever possible.

The City of Greater Bendigo has also been working with the Year 6 Leadership Group of the Strathfieldsaye Primary School to develop and refine ideas for the space. Their input and enthusiasm has been integral to the developed design.

The developed design drawings can be viewed from the following links. They can be printed at A3.
