A free community barbecue complete with indigenous music will take place from 5.30pm to 6.30pm on Wednesday May 30 at the Bendigo Senior Secondary School Language Centre to mark Reconciliation Week 2012.
Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Alec Sandner said the City of Greater Bendigo, Reconciliation Victoria, Bendigo Senior Secondary College, Rotary Club of Bendigo and the Bendigo Local Aboriginal Education Cooperative have partnered together to hold this special event and all interested members of the community are invited to attend.
“Reconciliation Week is held every year from May 27 to June 3 and is an important event on Greater Bendigo’s annual events calendar.
“The week marks two important dates – the anniversary of the 1967 referendum (May 27, 1967) and the anniversary of the Mabo land rights decision (June 3, 1992) and this year’s theme is Let’s Talk Recognition.
“I invite all interested local residents to come along, share some food and talk about reconciliation,” said Cr Sandner.
