Superannuation scheme needs changing
The Greater Bendigo City Council has adopted its annual fees and charges for the 2012/2013 financial year at this week’s Council meeting.
City of Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Alec Sandner said the adoption of the annual fees and charges is an important part of the City’s annual budget process.
“Every year Council reviews the level of fees and charges applied across all of the services provided by the City. We do this to ensure we are raising enough revenue to deliver good quality and affordable services to the community.
“While there has only been modest increase in most fees and charges, it has been necessary to put in place higher increases in fees relating to waste management and child care services.
“Increases in the EPA levy and the introduction of a carbon price will have a big impact on our waste management services and as a result we need to increase the fees to dispose of waste.
“In the next financial year the EPA Levy on waste will rise by $4.40 to $48.40 per tonne of waste taken to the landfill while the carbon price on landfills is predicted to cost around $24 per tonne,” said Cr Sandner.
He said the fees for child care at the City of Greater Bendigo run child care centres will increase from $285 to $325 per week for over 3 year olds and $335 per week for under 3 year old to align with industry standards and in an effort to meet the actual cost of of providing this service.
“The increased childcare fees are in line with the charges at other local child care centres. It is also important to remember that what people will actually pay will still ultimately be determined by the means tested childcare benefits,” Cr Sandner said.
He said parking fees will increase in Zone One areas from $1.20 to $1.30 per hour and from $4.50 to $5.00 for all day parking. The multi story car park hourly rate will increase by 10 cents per hour however the all day rate will remain unchanged.
In the next financial year Council will discount the cost of seasons tickets to its outdoor pools in an effort to encourage more people to utilise these important community facilities during the swimming season.
