Heathcote’s Visitor Centre volunteers will be thanked for their contribution as part of National Volunteer Week, with a Morning Tea planned for 10am tomorrow Friday 18 May at the Heathcote Visitor Centre.
Mayor, Cr Alex Sander will officially thank a gathering of volunteers by celebrating their efforts to provide quality service and information to visitors to the region. There are 4 volunteers who have provided over 10 years of service and will receive a commemorative pin to recognise their significant contribution and service to the Heathcote Visitor Centre.
Heathcote Visitor Centre has been operating for 14 years and is a Level 2 nationally accredited visitor centre, welcoming over 20,000 visitors through the doors annually. It is a focal point for visitors, operators and community in the Heathcote region.
Volunteers at the Heathcote Visitor Centre contribute in excess of 5,800 hours per year and the Heathcote Visitor Centre wouldn’t be able to offer the services it does or keep its accreditation without the work and dedication of the volunteers.
“There are currently 20 registered volunt eers bringing their enthusiasm, local knowledge and expertise to the Centre,” said Kathryn Mackenzie, Executive Manager Tourism, City of Greater Bendigo.
“We appreciate their passion and their wonderful welcome which they provide to visitors of the region, while offering them advice about what to experience when visiting Heathcote and surrounds.”
Whilst the volunteers core role is delivering visitor information on Heathcote and the surrounding region, they also attend and contribute to regular monthly meetings, familiarisation visits and training sessions. A volunteer shift is 4 hours, but many work more than that, with some assisting for up to 16 hours per week.
The Heathcote Visitor Centre and the work of its volunteers plays a very important role in encouraging visitors to stay longer and spend more while in the region.
Heathcote Visitor Centre welcomes enquiries from anyone interested in volunteering. Please contact Janet Wicks, Coordinator Heathcote Visitor Centre on 5433 3121.
Heathcote Visitor Centre is located at the corner of High and Barracks Street, Heathcote and is open every day from 9am - 5pm, except for Christmas Day.
