Significant Interest In Library Refurbishment Work

Friday 22 June 2012

More than 30 construction contractors have lodged expressions of interest (EOI) to undertake major refurbishment works at Bendigo Library.

City of Greater Bendigo Organisation Support Director Marg Allan said an exhaustive review process had resulted in seven contractors being shortlisted.

“The EOI attracted 31 very impressive submissions. It is clear that there is considerable interest in this high profile project as submitters have gone to significant effort to prepare the necessary documentation,” Ms Allan said.

“The selection was made on the basis of capability and capacity to undertake a project of this scale and type.

“The shortlisted contractors include a mix of local, regional and Melbourne based firms.”

Council will be asked to consider awarding the tender at its meeting on September 4, 2012 with works expected to begin soon afterwards.

Ms Allan reminded library users that services would not be available in central Bendigo from August 27 until September 17, 2012 to enable the temporary relocation of Bendigo Library to the former Bendigo Advertiser site at 96-98 Pall Mall.

The library will remain at its temporary home until the refurbishment works are completed in early 2014.
