Community Access and Inclusion Plan 2011-2014

The Community Access and Inclusion Plan 2011-2014 was adopted by Council at its meeting on 25 May 2011.

According to Australian Bureau of Statistics data approximately 20% of Victoria’s population has some form of disability which means that about 20,000 people in Greater Bendigo could be affected by a permanent or temporary disability.

This Plan continues City of Greater Bendigo’s commitment to reduce barriers to people with a disability and addresses and responds to legislative requirements under the Victorian Disability Act 2006.  This is the third Plan to be adopted by Council.

The Plan is based on four objectives:

  • Reduce barriers to a person with a disability accessing goods, services and facilities;
  • Reduce barriers to persons with a disability obtaining and maintaining employment;
  • Promote inclusion and participation in the community of persons with a disability;
  • Achieve tangible changes in attitudes and practices which discriminate against persons with a disability.

The Plan is underpinned by four key principles; social inclusion, human rights, diversity and community engagement.
