COUNCIL ESTABLISHES NEW EVENT GROUP - 3/11/2003

The City of Greater Bendigo has established a new event group to support events and festivals throughout the municipality including the Bendigo Easter Festival.

The establishment of the new group has been made possible through the reallocation of existing resources and a small new allocation in the current budget.

Acting Chief Executive Officer Barry Secombe said he welcomed Festivals & Events Coordinator Max Bartlett, Festivals & Events Officer Zoe Nott and Events Support Officer Fiona Last to the Council team.

Mr Secombe said the new staff will be located in Council’s Cultural Development & Events Unit in Hargreaves Street to provide a one stop contact for event and festival organisers.

“There are many economic, social and cultural benefits associated with staging a range of events within the municipality and Council is committed to making Greater Bendigo the event capital of Regional Victoria. The new staff have been appointed to provide assistance and advice to organisers of local events particularly to the Committee of Bendigo’s major annual event – the Bendigo Easter Festival.

“Council expects that future events in Greater Bendigo will be certain to benefit from the experience and knowledge of the new staff,” said Mr. Secombe.

Max Bartlett has worked on numerous festivals including production of the Opening and Closing ceremonies for the World Swimming Championships, the staging of the Asian- Pacific Ballroom Dance Championships and Fashion Week in Perth. His experience also includes working on events for the Melbourne Festival, events coordinator with the City of Knox and a senior producer for Channel 7 Network.

Zoe Nott comes to Bendigo from the City of Greater Geelong where for the last three years, she worked on many events including the Dawn Buster Fun Run, Pako Festa and the UCI Women's World Cup Road Cycling Championships.

Fiona Last has held the position of Tourism and Promotions Officer with the Weddin Shire Council and has also worked on the Henry Lawson Festival of Arts, Grenfell Open For Inspection Day, The Weddin Mountain Muster and Australia Day activities, along with many smaller community events.

Mr Secombe said the skills and abilities of the new team members will add value to a range of event opportunities within the municipality.
