| The 2010 Bendigo Easter Festival Gala Parade will be full of artistic entries following the awarding of grants worth $7,000 through the Violee Myers-Davey Artist in Resident Program - funded by the City of Greater Bendigo and the Bendigo Easter Fair Society.
Sixteen local groups have received grants through the program to develop their entries for the 2010 Bendigo Easter Festival Gala Parade.
The successful grant recipients are Central Victoria Fire Service Preservation Society, Discovery Science & Technology Centre , CreateAbility, Bendigo Agricultural Show Society, St Luke’s Anglicare Smart Art, Central Deborah Gold Mine, Bendigo Tramways, Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Services Inc., East African Community of Castlemaine, Lead On, Bendigo Senior Secondary College, Huntly Primary School, Redesdale/Mia Mia Primary Schools, Camp Hill Primary School, Bendigo Historical Society, and Lockwood Primary School.
City of Greater Bendigo Councillor and Chair of the Bendigo Easter Festival Committee Rod Fyffe said by providing grants to so many local groups he expected to see some fantastic entries in next year’s gala parade which will have a “Past, Present and Future” theme.
“All of the grant recipients will also have access to advice from local artist Anton Hassell so the entries should be very creative and interesting.”
“The gala parade is a wonderful way for local community groups to participate in one of the City’s iconic annual events and the grants are part of a commitment to continue to grow and improve the annual Bendigo Easter Festival gala parade.”
President of the Bendigo Easter Fair Society, Ian Dyett said the Artist in Resident Program was recently renamed after the late Mrs Violee Myers – Davey - a long term, dedicated volunteer and life member of the Bendigo Easter Fair.
“The Easter Monday gala parade reflects the importance of the Bendigo community’s people, heritage and culture and we thought it was appropriate to name this program after the late Violee Myers-Davey who dedicated so much of her time each year to the Easter Fair. It’s a very fitting tribute to a fantastic volunteer.”
“The Easter parades are an opportunity for local businesses to support community groups and showcase the many talents and strengths of the community,” said Mr Dyett said.
Information on entries in the Easter Gala Parade can be obtained at www.bendigo.vic.gov.au.
