News>SWAP AND SAVE THIS NATIONAL RECYCLING WEEK
| Bendigo residents will be able to swap till they drop at a Big Aussie Swap Party set to take place in the Civic Gardens between 5.30 and 7.30 pm on Tuesday November 10 as part of National Recycling Week. The Bendigo Rotary Club with support from the City of Greater Bendigo is hosting the Bendigo Big Aussie Swap party to celebrate National Recycling Week which runs from November 9 to 15.
Rather than throw out unwanted possessions, residents are encouraged to swap them for other useful items.
The only items that can be swapped at this year’s party are clothing, shoes, books, DVD/CDs, toys and sporting equipment that are clean and in good condition.. Unfortunately, electrical items cannot be accepted.
The benefits of swapping rather than discarding unwanted items are not as obvious as those associated with the recycling of common waste items such as aluminium cans or used printer cartridges.
By swapping we keep quality resources in use and materials out of landfill, reusing items saves water and energy, and reduces carbon emissions.
In addition to the environmental benefits, swap parties can snare you a bargain because the items on offer don’t have an attached price tag.
For each item you bring to a Big Aussie Swap party, you’ll receive a token which is then exchanged as payment for another item. The great thing about swap parties is you can update your wardrobe, children’s toy box or book collection without spending any money.
