CITY WELCOMES FUNDING FOR MAIDEN GULLY ECO-INDUSTRIAL ESTATE - 5/11/2009  Printer Friendly

The City of Greater Bendigo has welcomed $125,000 in funding from the State Government to assist the development of a new eco-industrial estate in Maiden Gully.

City of Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Kevin Gibbins said the funding will assist to develop infrastructure for a new eco-industrial park on a 20 hectare site at the corner of Calder Highway and Rowe Lane in Maiden Gully.

“Last year Council resolved to sell this land to Australian Turntable Company (ATC) – a growing local business wanting to significantly expand their operations.”

“ATC will construct a new, cutting edge facility to manufacture environmentally friendly demountable houses for the domestic and export markets. The innovative homes are 7.5 star energy rated and feature the highest standard of sustainability.”

“The new manufacturing operation is expected to employ up to 100 people initially and will be a world class, sustainable facility,” said Cr Gibbins.

He said the City of Greater Bendigo’s Economic Development Unit has worked closely with ATC to make this important development a reality.

“Today’s funding announcement is terrific news and we thank the State Government for supporting this important local development.

“The funding will be used to construct access roads to the new eco-industrial estate. This will help progress this important project and support ATC to grow. It will also assist in attracting other complementary industries to the site.”

“It’s a great outcome for local business, jobs and the environment,” said Cr Gibbins.
