Heathcote Residents Resource Hub

The City of Greater Bendigo's Heathcote Service Centre has always been a "hub" for the local community to access both Council and community services and information.

We intend to provide an even better resource with the recent launch of the Heathcote "Residents Resource Hub".  The idea builds on the previous Heathcote Information and Volunteer Hub, but now provides new refurbished arts spaces, which can also be used for information sharing, creative pursuits, social interaction and community engagement and building.

Two spaces in the Heathcote Service Centre have recently been upgraded in accordance with the Community Art Space Scoping Study 2009, which identified a need for spaces for artists to exhibit and run workshops.

The Scoping Study notes that:  "It is through the things we do together as groups and communities that we gain a sense of collective identity, a sense of place and a sense of belonging".

The two spaces are:

The workshop space

Ideal for art and craft making activities or artists at work.  This includes artists creating, and artists teaching or conducting workshops.

The arts space

Is suited to exhibitions and workshops and boasts a professional gallery hanging space and lighting.

This space is also flexible enough to be utilised  for other activities including community meetings and forums, children's story time etc.

The Hub is currently hosting a 'Lens Art' Photography exhibition by Heathcote School Children and will soon welcome the 'Heartland Art' exhibition by Heathcote Artist, Kath Carroll.

Future plans for the Hub

Plans are in progress to establish a Heathcote and District Newcomers group which will meet at regular intervals in the Hub, and the Library which is also located in the building is planning to run children's story times in the space. Guests speakers will attend the spaces to speak on current and topical matters as identified by Heathcote Service Centre staff and/or the community.
