Council Program
The City is implementing the Year 1
- High Priority activities from the Bendigo Urban Stormwater Management
Plan to reduce urban stormwater pollution.
These activities are frequently implemented
through partnerships between Council, community groups and other
agencies through the Bendigo urban stormwater program.
Botanic Gardens Wetland Feasibility Study
As a part of the expansion of the Botanic
Gardens, the City is working with North Central Catchment Management
Authority to look at the feasibility of constructing wetlands to
remove pollution from stormwater in White Hills before it enters
Bendigo Creek
Weeroona Avenue Sediment/Litter Trap
In Bendigo creek, next to Lake Weeroona,
the City is working with North Central Catchment Management Authority
to investigate options for constructing a litter trap and a sediment
trap downstream of the Weeroona Avenue Bridge. This project will
capture the pollution before it enters the 'natural' part of the
creek.
Urban Lakes Water Quality Plans
North Central Catchment Management Authority
is working with the City to complete a study of the 5 main recreational
lakes in Bendigo to see how use and management can be altered to
improve the Water Quality entering, in, and leaving the lakes.
Regional Training
North Central Catchment Management Authority
is coordinating a regional training program on behalf of City of
Greater Bendigo and the other 11 Shires in the North Central Region.
he program is provided for Council staff,
Councillors, contractors, and other interest groups. This training
will ensure that Council are able to provide information on current
Best Practices for improving water quality.
