Greater Bendigo Economic Development Strategy - where people thrive - discussion paper
“Development is about transforming the lives of people, not just transforming economies” - Economist Joseph E. Stiglitz.
The new ‘Greater Bendigo - where people thrive’ Discussion Paper 2019 has now been released. The paper is designed to promote debate and discussion in order to craft an Economic Development Strategy. The Strategy’s overall purpose will be to improve the living standards of all members of our community. The Economic Development Strategy Steering Committee is keen to hear your thoughts. This is a great opportunity to participate in the extensive community engagement process that will be conducted. Your input, comments and feedback are important and will help shape Greater Bendigo’s future.
How was the Discussion Paper developed?
Development of this Discussion Paper started in late 2018 when the City of Greater Bendigo established an Economic Development Strategy Steering Committee chaired by its Mayor and comprising leading persons from economic partners from across the City. The Steering Committee was formed with the express purpose of overseeing the development of a new Strategy.
The formation of the Steering Committee, the approach to the Strategy and this Discussion Paper are all based on what is known as a collective impact approach. This involves:
- A shared vision resulting from a mutual understanding of the problem and an agreed proposed agenda for its solution;
- Agreement on a set of coordinated activities defined in a joint plan of actions;
- Agreement on a set of key indicators to measure performance, and;
- Processes that keep all stakeholders informed.
