Domestic Wastewater Management Strategy 2014-2015
The Domestic Wastewater Management Strategy 2014-15 is a guide for the City of Greater Bendigo and its partners in improving septic tank management across the Greater Bendigo municipality.
The strategy has been developed with a vision of protecting our drinking water, our community, and our environments from wastewater pollution.
While there are segments of the strategy that must be included to meet State requirements, the strategy provides an opportunity to manage wastewater in a way that fits with Greater Bendigo and its needs.
Key chapters of the strategy include:
Planning for Growth
Areas for Improvement
Areas for Careful Management
Better Practice for Better Outcomes
Town sewer planning is managed by water corporations in their sewer and water plans, so the Strategy primarily considers septic systems and other onsite wastewater management methods.
The Domestic Wastewater Management Strategy was adopted by Council on January 21, 2015.
Resulting amendments to the Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme
Planning scheme amendment C214 was approved and gazetted by the Minister for Planning on March 24, 2016. The planning scheme amendment implements recommendations of the Domestic Wastewater Management Strategy 2014-15, and the City of Greater Bendigo Land Capability Mapping and Assessment Tools for Wastewater Management 2015, and includes them as reference documents in the Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme, to guide domestic wastewater management and disposal throughout the municipality.
