BARC (Bendigo Animal Relief Centre) 

Pets can still be adopted and lost pets can still be claimed, but this is now strictly by appointment.
Please note, all adoption fees/lost pet infringements can only be paid over the phone. Cash will not be accepted at this time.
Should you want to meet/collect a pet, you will be directed to the BARC car park where the animal will be securely waiting for you. Staff will be on-site to assist if necessary, but every effort will be taken to limit contact between staff and members of the public. 
BARC is still accepting surrendered pets, however we ask that if possible you contact us prior to arrange a suitable time to bring your pet in.

Bendigo Art Gallery

Bendigo Art Gallery is closed until further notice.

Bendigo Venues and Events

Bendigo Venues and Events (The Capital, Ulumbarra, The Engine Room, Dudley House and Bendigo Town Hall, outside of Council meetings) will close its venues and all performances have been cancelled for the duration of the Victorian State of Emergency.

Ticket holders will be contacted to arrange refunds for performances affected by this closure.

Bendigo and Heathcote Visitor Centres

The Bendigo and Heathcote Visitor Centres are closed until further notice.

Dog parks

The City's dog parks remain open as a place people can take their dogs for exercise. Please ensure you adhere to social distancing rules - signage has been placed at each park as a reminder. 

Please note the drinking fountains at each location are closed. 

Goldfields Libraries 

All Goldfields Libraries branches and agencies are closed until further notice. This includes all programs and events and Home Library Service deliveries. 

Immunisation sessions

The City of Greater Bendigo will only undertake public immunisation sessions from:

Strathdale Community Centre,
Crook Street, Strathdale

Strathdale Community Centre has been chosen as the immunisation venue because as a large venue it supports good social distancing measures and has accessible car parking.

Landfill and Transfer Stations

Customers will only be able to pay with EFTPOS at the City's Eaglehawk landfill and the Goornong, Heathcote and Strathfieldsaye transfer stations.

Maternal and Child Health

The City's Maternal and Child Health centres are closed and the following changes to service delivery are in place:

  • Telephone consultations will replace usual centre visits
  • Appointments for children aged 0–8 weeks and those with complex needs will be the priority
  • First time parent groups are on hold

Please ensure you have downloaded the MCH app and have the MCH 24hr number saved, 13 22 29. You can still contact the City’s MCH staff on (03) 4408 6590.


The City's public playspaces are closed until further notice. Please do not let your children play on this equipment. 

It is important to note playspaces in childcare centres can still be used. 

Pools and sporting centres

These facilities are closed:

  • Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre
  • Faith Leech Aquatic Centre (will not re-open until the 2020/2021 season)
  • Peter Krenz Leisure Centre
  • East Bendigo
  • Long Gully Splash Park (will not re-open until the 2020/2021 season)
  • Bendigo Stadium (including bistro and gaming)

All aquatic facilities will be in touch with members to suspend memberships.

Public toilet closures

Some public toilets have closed until further notice due to incidences of vandalism and low usage, or they were nominated for demolition. The following facilities are closed:

  • Londonderry Reserve
  • Old Heathcote toilet block
  • Lake Weeroona (rear)
  • Allingham Street
  • Fenton Street, North Bendigo
  • Kangaroo Flat Botanic Gardens
  • Crusoe Heights
  • Neale Street, Kennington
  • Canterbury Park (green box)
  • Tom Flood
  • Mews (located behind Bendigo Visitor Centre)
  • Epsom (Midland Highway)
  • Spring Gully Recreation Reserve
