Bendigo Airport redevelopment to be staged
The City of Greater Bendigo will complete stage one of the Bendigo Airport redevelopment by December, including an upgraded terminal building.
As part of adopting the 2023/2024 Budget, Council will commit a further $2.1M to enable completion of this stage of the project, which has experienced cost pressures impacting works planned.
Development of the business park, including 14 air-side lots and seven land-side lots, will become stage two of the project and be subject to securing future funding.
Mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf said the project had been severely impacted by rising construction costs.
“Council’s additional contribution of $2.1M ensures a range of works can be completed by the end of this year, including the terminal building, administration building, upgrades to the car park and core infrastructure such as power, sewer and water,” Cr Metcalf said.
“City staff worked very hard to alleviate cost pressures for this project and made changes to the project scope where possible, but the reality is that since 2020 sewer and power infrastructure costs have increased by approximately $1M and water main infrastructure has increased by $700,000.
“Delivery of the business park remains a priority for the City and staff continue to look at ways to progress stage two of the project and bring lots to market as soon as possible.”
