Bendigo Visitor Centre wins state tourism award
The Bendigo Visitor Centre won Gold in the Visitor Information Services category in recognition of its consistent high quality customer service and face to face interaction with visitors. It's the fourth time that the Bendigo Visitor Centre has picked up the accolade.
The City also won bronze in the Local Government Award for Tourism category which recognises excellence in tourism planning, provisions for tourism facilities and services, event development and the overall contribution to Victoria's tourism industry.
The City's tourism digital marketing officer, Izabelle So, was also nominated in the Young Achievers Award.
Director Strategy and Growth Bernie O'Sullivan said the awards recognised Bendigo's reputation as a major regional tourist destination that continued to strive for business excellence and innovation.
"I would like to congratulate all of the staff and volunteers at the Bendigo Visitor Centre and the City's Tourism and Major Events unit for their outstanding achievement in delivering a great visitor experience,” Mr O’Sullivan said.
"It is a wonderful outcome to win two awards plus a nomination and to be endorsed as leaders in promoting excellence in tourism.”
The winners of each category will now compete with other states and territories for a chance to be recognised as the best in the country at the Australian Tourism Awards next year.
Two regional businesses were also recognised at last night’s awards. Simply Green Tomatoes in Boort won a silver award and The Shiraz Republic in Heathcote took out a bronze.
