Budget invests in critical infrastructure
The City of Greater Bendigo’s 2023/2024 Budget will continue to invest in maintaining critical infrastructure such as roads, footpaths, drainage and City-owned buildings that benefit the community.
The Budget includes $36M in renewal capital works to support important infrastructure for the community and regular maintenance projects for $2.5B worth of assets such as roads, the Golden Dragon Museum, libraries, community buildings and highly valued heritage buildings.
The investment focused on maintaining infrastructure to improve everyday living includes:
- $10M for sealed roads
- $3.9M for unsealed roads
- $2.6M for drainage works
- $2.1M for works on footpaths and shared paths
- $6.9M for buildings
Blackspot funding will also be sought to enhance road safety at the following locations:
- Crusoe Road, Lockwood
- Diamond Hill Road, Mandurang
- Epsom-Barnadown Road
- Sedgwick Road, Mandurang South
Mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf said maintaining roads and footpaths was one of Council’s most important roles.
“In addition to the road network, we look after more than 300 bridges, almost 900 kilometres of footpaths and more than 1,000 kilometres of underground drains,” Cr Metcalf said.
“Maintaining and upgrading assets requires significant funding and planning to ensure they are maintained to an appropriate standard.”
