City thanks volunteers during National Volunteer Week

Leave feedback

To celebrate National Volunteer Week, the City of Greater Bendigo will thank over 500 of its volunteers at a special morning tea to be held at the Ulumbarra Theatre this Thursday.

The City’s volunteers dedicate approximately 2,500 hours of service per month, or around 30, 000 hours per year to help deliver important services.

Mayor Margaret O’Rourke said the City wanted to thank the volunteers for their valuable contribution to a range of services that benefit the community.

“We are so fortunate to have such a large group of passionate volunteers, many of whom have been with us for many years,” Cr O’Rourke said.

“We couldn’t do all that we do without the help of our volunteers who give their time to help with a range of City activities, including major events and festivals and assisting tourists to experience the best of Greater Bendigo.

“Volunteering helps create a stronger, more connected and more resilient community.

“We always welcome new volunteers, so if you have been thinking about putting your hand up to help, there are plenty of fantastic opportunities available with the City of Greater Bendigo.”

Volunteers support the City across a range of services including:

  • Home visiting program and Social Support Group
  • Bendigo Art Gallery and Post Office Gallery
  • The Capital and Ulumbarra theatres
  • Bendigo Easter Festival and Bendigo Writers Festival
  • Bendigo and Heathcote Visitor Centres
  • Yo Bendigo
  • Early years’ events
  • Landcare and the environment
