The City of Greater Bendigo with funding from the Healthy Heart of Victoria initiative has installed new outdoor fitness equipment in Kangaroo Flat along the Bendigo Creek walking path near the Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre.

The new Kangaroo Flat fitness zone is free to use and includes a balance beam, circuit trainer for swing, wobble, step and twist exercising, magnetic bells, arm bike, exercise bike and 20, 40 and 60cm steps to provide opportunities for both cardio and strength training.

The project has also included the installation of a new drinking water fountain and new seating.

City of Greater Bendigo Manager Active and Healthy Lifestyles Lincoln Fitzgerald said the new equipment has been installed to provide local residents with an opportunity to increase their physical activity.

“To introduce people to the new equipment we are holding a number of community, Come and Try half hour sessions during February,” Mr Fitzgerald said.

“The sessions are free to attend and will be guided in a safe and supportive environment by an exercise physiologist from Gurrii Wanyarra.

“The equipment is suitable for all ages and abilities and the Come and Try sessions are a great way to get some tips on how to safely use the new equipment.”

The Come and Try sessions will take place:

8am to 8.30am, Wednesday February 12, 19 and 26

4.30pm to 5pm, Thursday February 13, 20 and 27

12.30pm to 1pm, Friday February 14, 21 and 28
