Design workshop for Heathcote town centre

Leave feedback

The City of Greater Bendigo will host a design workshop with Heathcote residents and traders to look at ways to make the town centre safer, more attractive and welcoming.

The town centre was raised as an issue as part of the Heathcote Township Plan with residents identifying pedestrian and cyclist safety, vehicle speeds and lack of amenity as key concerns.

The workshop will be run by E+ Architecture, which has been engaged by the City to develop a concept for how High Street might look and feel.

Director Strategy and Growth Bernie O’Sullivan said consultation as part of the Heathcote Township Plan had been positive.

“We had good feedback from lots of Heathcote residents and one of the key concerns raised was look and function of the town centre.

“High Street is very wide and is dominated by vehicles and parking, so it’s not very pedestrian or cyclist friendly.

“There are also issues around accessibility and lack of friendly welcoming spaces for people to gather.

“This workshop will be a great opportunity to work through these and other issues and start coming up with a vision of what the community wants to see in its town centre.”

Information from the workshop will feed into a concept plan for the town centre that will form part of the Heathcote Township Plan.

The workshop is on Thursday October 11 from 7pm-9pm at the Heathcote Bowls Club. All residents are welcome.
