Epsom Skate Park nears completion

Work on the new junior skate park at Epsom Village Green is nearing completion.

City of Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Margaret O’Rourke said the new skate park has been constructed at the existing Epsom Village Green and features wheeled play for scooters, skateboards, BMX and in line skates.

“Equipment installed includes a quarter pipe, tapered bank, manual pad, flat bank, and a special feature of the new park is a volcano,” Cr O’Rourke said.

“Epsom/Huntly is one of the fastest growing areas in Greater Bendigo and new infrastructure like this is very important for families living in the area.

”It’s an exciting project for Epsom that has been driven by members of the local community and first came about following a request for a skate park in Epsom, by Aiden Baldwin who at the time, attended Epsom Primary School but now attends Weeroona College.

“The design plans for the skate park were developed by the City in 2018 following extensive consultation with students from Epsom Primary School and Weeroona College and local residents.

"The students played an important role in the project by helping to select the elements that they wanted included in the design of the skate park and the City has appreciated their involvement.

“The City is very grateful to everyone who has had input into the project and we also thank all of the funding partners for helping to bring it to fruition."

The $510,000 project is being funded by a $200,000 contribution from the City of Greater Bendigo, $150,000 from the Australian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, $150,000 from the Victorian Government’s Sport and Recreation Community Infrastructure Fund and $10,000 from the Bendigo Northern District Community Enterprise.

Work on the skate park is expected to be completed in mid-June however, it will only be available for the community to use when the Victorian Government lifts COVID-19 restrictions relating to playspaces.
