Expressions of interest open for Farming and Agribusiness Advisory Committee

The City of Greater Bendigo is calling for expressions of interest to join the newly expanded Farming and Agribusiness Advisory Committee.

The Farming Advisory Committee has been in operation since 2013, providing guidance to Council on issues affecting the farming community.  The scope of the Committee has recently been broadened to encourage members of the agribusiness community to apply as well.

Committee members serve for a four-year term and meet every two months.

Director Strategy and Growth Bernie O’Sullivan said Greater Bendigo had a diverse range of farming and agribusiness enterprises.

“Our region includes broadacre cropping, intensive and extensive livestock production, orchards and wineries, small scale agricultural production, as well as suppliers, logistics and business consultants,” Mr O’Sullivan said.

“Committee members consider and advise on the challenges and opportunities the sector is facing, including climate change and environmental sustainability, technology use and supporting young farmers.

“We’re looking for people involved in a broad range of commercial rural businesses. It’s a great opportunity to have your say on the future of farming and agribusiness in Greater Bendigo.”

Key achievements of the existing committee include:

  • Advocating to VicRoads regarding the condition of the Elmore-Raywood Road
  • Advocating to the Victorian Government’s Agriculture Minister for support for local industries to navigate potential impacts of a Queensland Fruit Fly infestation.
  • Input into Greater Bendigo’s submission to the State Government’s Local Government Rating System Review in relation to options to improve the rating system for farm properties
  • Submission in response to the Victorian Kangaroo Harvest Management Plan

You can find a copy of the Terms of Reference on the City’s website and submit an online application at

Applications will close on Friday November 20, 2020.
