First sod to be turned on new Epsom Junior Skate Park

The first sod will be turned at the new $510,000 junior skate park at Epsom Village Green on Friday February 21, 2020.

City of Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Margaret O’Rourke said the project came about following a request for a skate park in Epsom, by Aiden Baldwin who at the time attended Epsom Primary School but now attends Weeroona College.

“The design plans for the skate park were developed by the City in 2018 following extensive consultation with students from Epsom Primary School and Weeroona College and local residents.

“The students played an important role in the project by helping to select the elements that they wanted included in the design of the skate park and the City has really appreciated their involvement.

“Epsom/Huntly is one of the fastest growing areas in Greater Bendigo and new infrastructure like the junior skate park is very important for families living in the area.

“The new skate park will be integrated into the existing Village Green and will feature wheeled play for scooters, skateboards, BMX and in line skates. Equipment will include a quarter pipe, tapered bank, manual pad, flat bank, and the master piece, a volcano.

The project is being funded by a $200,000 contribution from the City of Greater Bendigo, $150,000 from the Australian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, $150,000 from the Victorian Government’s Sport and Recreation Community Infrastructure Fund and $10,000 from the Bendigo Northern District Community Enterprise.

”This is a very important project for Epsom that many in the community are eagerly waiting for and the City thanks all our funding partners for helping to bring it to fruition.”

Construction of the skate park is expected to commence on Monday February 24, 2020 for completion in May.
