Have your say on new design for Lake Weeroona play space
The City of Greater Bendigo is planning a new design for the popular Lake Weeroona play space.
City staff will be at the play space on Australia Day, Sunday January 26, to survey the community and ask them what they like about the current play space and their suggestions for the new design.
Staff will also visit the play space over the next few weeks at various times to meet with as many people as possible.
If residents miss meeting with staff members, they can complete the short survey online at www.bendigo.vic.gov.au/lakeweeroona before Friday February 14, 2020.
Manager Parks and Open Space Paul Gangell said the community’s feedback would inform the new design, to be released for further consultation later in the year.
“City staff have a great record of designing bright, engaging and fun play spaces, such as the Mulga Bill-inspired play space in Eaglehawk and also play spaces at the Bendigo Botanic Gardens, FunLoong in Hargreaves Mall and Crook Street in Strathdale,” Mr Gangell said.
“The new design and the eventual upgrade of the Lake Weeroona play space will be one of the City’s largest projects of this kind to date and given the play space’s popularity, we would really welcome ideas from the community.
“The design phase is very important and we want residents, particularly our young people who enjoy using the play space, to tell us what they would like to see in the new design. Possible elements might be slides, nature play, shade, swings, water features or sculptural elements. We are open to all ideas.
“The current play space is more than 20 years old and is reaching the end of its useful life, so we’re looking to build a new play space to entertain new generations of young people for the next 20 years.
“This is the first step in a long process and eventual construction will be subject to future Council budget allocations but we are very excited to start planning for this new chapter for one of our most iconic and much-loved play spaces.”
