Hospitality and catering businesses invited to tender for City's Catering Panel

The City of Greater Bendigo has re-opened a tender inviting hospitality and catering businesses to join its Catering Panel as providers.

The Catering Panel is seeking new catering providers who can be called upon to prepare and deliver healthy hot or cold food options for specific functions, small to medium events and meetings organised at the City.

Caterers considered will need to provide a menu that follows the City’s Healthy Food and Catering Policy and the Waste Wise Events Single-Use Plastic Policy.

Catering and hospitality businesses are invited to attend a pre-tender meeting which will take place online at 2pm on Monday May 29.

City Manager Active and Healthy Communities Amy Johnston said the aims of the catering panel supported the Council Plan (Mir wimbul) 2021-2025 and Healthy Greater Bendigo 2021-2025.

“The City is committed to promoting healthy food and drink choices across the municipality and that also includes providing healthy catering options for specific City-run functions, meetings and events that limit food miles, use local seasonal products where possible and minimise packaging and waste,” Ms Johnston said.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for caterers and hospitality businesses to join the City’s Catering Panel.

“You are encouraged to attend an online pre-tender information session which will guide you through the tender process.

“The City wants to make the process as simple as possible and City staff will help caterers to review menus to ensure they comply with the City’s Healthy Food and Catering Policy.

“At the pre-tender session, businesses can find out more about completing a menu assessment using the FoodChecker website for suitable and easy catering options.

“Caterers selected for the panel can also appear in the Greater Bendigo’s Healthy Catering Guide which is available on the City’s website and Bendigo Community Health Services’ website for use by local businesses and the community.

“This is a great way to raise your profile and expand your business activities locally as those listed comply with the Victorian Government’s Healthy Choices Guidelines for workplace catering.”

This contract is for the supply and delivery of quality healthy catering services that:

  • Align with the Victorian Government’s Healthy Choices: healthy eating policy and catering guide for workplaces
  • Respond to special dietary needs
  • Meet all requirements for food safety
  • Maximise local, in-season produce
  • Offer a wide variety of options
  • Minimise food and packaging waste
  • Have good references regarding quality, timeliness, and reliability
  • Most catering orders will be for “drop-off” catering however there may be rare occasions where kitchen or service employees may be required for more formal functions

The CT000632 tender is an open five year contract which began in September 2022. The contract allows for new catering providers to be appointed to the panel on an annual basis.

The extent of supply and services required will be variable over the contract period, dependent on City meetings, events, and functions. The City does not guarantee minimum or maximum requirements for catering as a member on the panel. Supplies from catering and hospitality providers will be on a required piecemeal basis.
