The City of Greater Bendigo is delighted to have received a message from the Prime Minister of Australia The Hon Scott Morrison MP in support of the 2020 Bendigo Invention + Innovation Festival (2020BIIF).

City Director Strategy and Growth Bernie O’Sullivan said the Prime Minister’s message was a strong endorsement of what Greater Bendigo continues to achieve in different sectors of industry from manufacturing to mining to advances in technology.

“It is wonderful to receive the Prime Minister’s message of support as the festival reflects the region’s core strengths in innovation, exporting to 50 countries all over the world,” Mr O’Sullivan said.

“The free festival features 40-plus virtual events and thought-provoking panel discussions which we hope will inspire greater innovation during the recovery period and create more opportunities to collaborate and capitalise on our region’s strengths moving forward.

“The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with the festival’s theme ‘Optimism through Innovation’ striking a chord.

“We’ve had over 3,600 bookings for sessions and more than 1,000 participants took part in last week’s online events which illustrates the strong support and interest in the virtual festival.”

Festival Chair Paul Chapman said the 2020BIIF committee was delighted to receive the Prime Minister’s message of support for the festival.

We are absolutely thrilled to receive the letter from Prime Minister Scott Morrison,” Mr Chapman said.

It demonstrates Greater Bendigo’s highly respected reputation and our deep commitment to innovation.

“I strongly believe the festival’s virtual experience has expanded rather than limited the appeal of the event as we’ve been successful in attracting the highest calibre of keynote speakers and registrations from all over Australia and other parts of the world, including Chile, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver Colorado and San Francisco.

“I’d like to thank 2020BIIF’s sponsors – the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources, La Trobe University, Bendigo Tech School, The Centre for Optimism, the Digital Innovation Futures Victoria, Goldfields Local Learning and Employment Network and the Bendigo Manufacturing Group for giving us great support in creating this ambitious event.”

2020BIIF has also received numerous videos and messages of support including from Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack, Opposition Leader Hon Anthony Albanese MP, Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Education and Training Tanya Plibersek MP, Leader of the Nationals Peter Walsh MP, Federal Member for Nicholls Damian Drum, Federal Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters MP and Liberal Senator the Hon Sarah Henderson MP. Austrade Commissioner to the U.S Nick Nichels has also sent a video message of support.

Local State Members Minister for Transport Infrastructure the Hon Jacinta Allan MP and Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards MP have also kindly contributed videos.

This week’s forthcoming events include the popular Festival of Failure with MC Chris Stoltz AM and guests AFLW Richmond players Rebecca Miller and Gabrielle Seymour, Dr Alex Maritz from La Trobe University, Andrew Jones from Neu21Global and Adrian Pulfer from Iconic Collective.
