The Greater Bendigo City Council has agreed to distribute $196,677 between 55 applicants in Round 1 of the 2015/2016 Community Grants Program.

Mayor Cr Peter Cox thanked community groups for their applications and said he looked forward to seeing the funded projects implemented.

“Community groups and non-profit organisations do valuable work that helps to deliver on Council’s vision for Bendigo to be Australia’s most liveable regional city,” Cr Cox said.

“Many varied applications were submitted, including requests to purchase safety equipment, hold art exhibitions and festivals, and undertake environmental programs, and it was Council’s pleasure to be able to support these worthwhile initiatives with the knowledge they will help enhance overall liveability, health and wellbeing, safety and diversity.”

Grants of up to $5,000 were approved across eight grant categories:

  • Active Communities
  • Community Arts
  • Community Development
  • Community Events
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Healthy Communities
  • Print and Digital Publications
  • Driver Education for Youth (temporary category not limited to $5,000)

In accordance with the Community Grants Policy, volunteer Community Assessment Panels are convened to consider the applications received under each category.  These Panels develop the funding recommendations for Council’s consideration.
