Bendigo listed in Australian Traveller's Top 100 Awesome Places
Bendigo has been listed in Australian Traveller magazine’s ‘Top 100 awesome places’ May edition.
Australian Traveller is the country’s best selling travel magazine with a readership of 80,000 people, and the Australian Traveller website receives 100,000 visitors each month. The monthly magazine features a ‘Top 100’ edition every six months.
Within the Top 100, Bendigo was listed first in the ‘Alternative capitals’ section, above Fremantle, Bundaberg, Newcastle, Townsville and Ballarat.
City of Greater Bendigo Tourism and Major Events Manager Terry Karamaloudis said it was a great achievement for Bendigo.
“Bendigo has built a strong reputation as a great regional city, a great place for a weekend away and to experience first class art, culture, heritage and food and wine,” Mr Karamaloudis said.
“This type of recognition demonstrates our hard work over many years to build that reputation and to market ourselves to domestic and international visitors is paying off.
“We work closely with our industry members to continually find new and attractive experiences that we can offer visitors, which has resulted in steady upward trends in our domestic visitor numbers over the past 10 years.
“Tourism benefits our local businesses and the wider community and it’s great to see that people from across the country can experience what we do: a great city with so much to see and do.”
