City thanks volunteers during National Volunteer Week

As part of National Volunteer Week, the City of Greater Bendigo will hold functions to thank the more than 500 people who volunteer with the organisation.

The City’s volunteers dedicate approximately 2,500 hours of service per month, or around 30,000 hours per year, to help deliver important services to the community.

Mayor Cr Margaret O’Rourke said without volunteers the City would not be able to deliver as many services as it does.

“We are very fortunate to have passionate and dedicated volunteers, many of whom have been with the organisation for many years,” Cr O’Rourke said.

“On behalf of the whole Greater Bendigo community, I would like to say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to our volunteers.

“Volunteering helps create stronger, more connected and more resilient communities. National Volunteer Week is a great opportunity to celebrate the contribution of volunteers and say thank you for their continued efforts.”

Volunteers support the City across a range of services including:

  • Meals on Wheels

  • The Visiting Program and Social Support Group

  • Bendigo Art Gallery

  • The Capital Venues and Events

  • Bendigo Easter Festival

  • Visitor Information Centre (Bendigo and Heathcote)

  • Kids Character Carnival

  • Events

  • Youth Services

  • Active and Healthy Communities

  • Landcare and the environment

Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to contact the City on 5434 6000.
