City to welcome Andrew Cooney as Director Corporate Performance

City of Greater Bendigo Chief Executive Officer Craig Niemann has announced Andrew Cooney will join the organisation as the new Director Corporate Performance.

Mr Cooney joins the City from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning where he is the Executive Director Partnerships and Sector Performance.

Prior to this, he was General Manager Governance and Strategy at Coliban Water, and his Local Government experience includes working as Director Community and Corporate Services at Gannawarra Shire Council and Manager Organisational Development at Loddon Shire Council.

Mr Niemann said he looked forward to welcoming Mr Cooney to the organisation.

“Andrew is a respected leader who has led a variety of innovative and strategic changes in the roles he has performed,” he said.

“His achievements include implementing initiatives to achieve cost efficiencies, improving organisational and Board governance, and delivering projects that benefit customers and the community.

“Andrew has considerable knowledge of the Local Government sector and experience in finance, community development, governance, human resources, risk management and compliance.

“He will no doubt make a valuable contribution to the City as we strive to achieve our vision of creating the world’s most liveable community.”

Mr Cooney is a Bendigo resident and former Chair of the AFL Central Victoria Football Commission and current Chair of the Bendigo division of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

“I’m really excited by this opportunity to join the City and make a valuable contribution to the local community that I am proud to call home,” he said.

“I also look forward to getting to know the staff and leading the high-performing Corporate Performance function of the organisation.”

Mr Cooney will start with the City on Monday August 20.
