February means the arrival of some great, free music events as part of Summer in the Parks.

Residents and visitors to the city can enjoy some great musical acts every Friday night this February between 6.30pm and 8.30pm in some of the Bendigo’s best parks.

Hosted by the City of Greater Bendigo and proudly supported by Bendigo TAFE, the Summer in the Parks program features over 100 free or low cost events and activities during the months of December, January and February.

The music will kick off tonight, at the Crook Street Park in Strathdale, with performances by JAKAL and Min and the Colin Band.

JAKAL are a band of five teenagers who play their own versions of jazz standards, on the edge fusion and original compositions. The band features the soulful voice of Jessie Hillel.

With a great mix of new and old and a variety of styles, Bendigo’s Min and the Colin Band combine swing, easy listening acoustic music and a great range of dance songs.

On Friday February 9, the Bendigo Botanic Gardens White Hills will come alive with the sounds of Hailey Calvert and The Northern Folk.

Hailey Calvert has a warm and breathtaking blues voice together with impressive guitar skills and relatable stage presence, as well as an honest song writing style.

Dubbed Albury's ‘11-headed folk monster’, The Northern Folk has a big, diverse sound which is continuing to earn them a following wherever they travel.

Friday February 16 will see Sherri Parry and Iffy Pop at the Canterbury Gardens in Eaglehawk.

At just 19, Sherri Parry is making a name for herself as one of the most exciting singer-songwriters in the Victorian folk scene. Her music showcases both composition skills and world views well beyond her time.

Iffy Pop are the Bendigo based cover band performing songs you wouldn’t normally play on guitars and songs seldom heard in Aussie pubs.

The final music gig will take place at Rosalind Park on Friday February 23 with Erica Hawkey Band and The Deans.

A rich mosaic of soul, blues, funk and jazz, Erica's song-writing is unique and soulful. Her voice is smoky and heartfelt one moment and roaring the next!

The Deans are a critically acclaimed original soul band. Winners of The Age Music Victoria Award for Best Indigenous Act 2014, The Deans are the sound of modern, original soul.
