The MSO pops up in Bendigo

Shoppers in Bendigo had an unexpected surprise today, with four members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra performing for curious on-lookers inside the Telstra Store in Mitchell Street.

An important alliance between the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Capital Venues and Events is currently in development with an aim to bring the MSO to Bendigo every year for major public performances, as well as various opportunities for our regional community to engage with its world-class musicians.

Members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra are currently visiting Bendigo to work with the Bendigo Symphony Orchestra and to perform at a fundraising dinner.   Members of the MSO are joining Bendigo Symphony rehearsals to conduct workshops and provide an invaluable experience for our dedicated local musicians.

In 2015, two MSO performances for schools scheduled for the day after their October 15 public performance at Ulumbarra Theatre are close to reaching full capacity.

A fundraising campaign to offset the MSO’s regional touring costs has been underway and has recently received a significant boost from Telstra in Bendigo.  Telstra Stores Bendigo’s Nick Papaz said Bendigo Telstra Stores have a fantastic partnership with Ulumbarra Theatre and we’re thrilled to support the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in coming to Bendigo.”

Capital Venues and Events Manager David Lloyd is extremely keen to ensure that the MSO continues to tour to regional Victoria, in particular Bendigo.   “Capital Venues and Events is thrilled to see local businesses and individuals support our campaign to bring the MSO to Bendigo.  The MSO shares our vision to see the regional community take full advantage of this world-class orchestra’s visit to Bendigo with a valuable community engagement program to benefit both young children and local musicians, in addition to those attending the concert in the magnificent new Ulumbarra Theatre.”

The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra performs at Ulumbarra Theatre, Bendigo on Thursday October 15.  Tickets can be purchased online at gotix.com.au or by calling Box Office on 5434 6100
