New Marveloo arrives to serve central Victoria events
Greater Bendigo now boasts a fully accessible mobile bathroom called Marveloo, which will be available for hire for events being held throughout central Victoria and beyond.
City of Greater Bendigo Health and Wellbeing Director Vicky Mason said the Marveloo was designed to meet the needs of people with high care needs, profound and multiple learning disabilities, their carers and many other people with a disability who were unable to use standard accessible toilets.
“It has many special features, including a fully accessible toilet, overhead ceiling hoist, height adjustable adult change table, privacy curtains, additional seating, heating and cooling, a safe and clean environment, adequate space, an automatic door, access ramp and an external sun shade,” Ms Mason said.
“Following the launch, we will trial the Marveloo at the Australia Day celebration held at Lake Weeroona and the City’s Summer in the Parks events. Marveloo will then be available for event organisers to hire from February 1, 2018.
“Marveloo will be a great addition to local events because it will allow people with high care needs to spend more time enjoying themselves without having to worry about accessing toilet facilities.
“The City is committed to increasing community inclusion for people with disability and their carers and Marveloo meets Australian standards for access and mobility and is fully compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
“The Marveloo design means that carers will have peace of mind that facilities will be available to cater for the needs of their loved one in a safe, comfortable and dignified manner at events that hire the facility.”
The Marveloo has been purpose built and is the third of its kind in Australia. The first Marveloo was designed and developed by Maroondah City Council, which generously supported Greater Bendigo to construct a Marveloo for this region.
The $130,000 Marveloo was funded by the Department of Health and Human Services.
