Dovylis Volume 1

Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Peter Cox has today launched the new Friends of Bendigo Botanic Gardens Dovyalis newsletter.

Cr Cox said Dovyalis will be distributed widely and will help enhance public awareness of the gardens, their significance, their ongoing development and the activities of the Friends group.

“Newsletters are a wonderful way to share information and the Dovyalis newsletter marks a new phase in the public profile of both the Botanic Gardens and the role of the Friends Group.

“This is a very exciting time for the Bendigo Botanic Gardens as we work toward extending the gardens through the construction of a new $4 million Garden for the Future garden.  So there will be plenty of news to fill up-coming editions of Dovyalis as this exciting project progresses.

“It’s a great initiative by the Friends of the Bendigo Botanic Gardens with support from the City of Greater Bendigo to highlight what is happening at the gardens,” said Cr Cox.

He said the newsletter was named after Dovyalis caffra - Kei Apple Tree which is a symbol of the Friends of the Bendigo Botanic Gardens.

“There is a Kei Apple tree at the Botanic Gardens that dates back to the 1800’s and it is one of the gardens key heritage trees,” said Cr Cox.

The newsletter will be issued twice yearly.
