The Mayor and Jan Orr, President of the Friends of BBG turn the first sod

The first sod of the new $4.6M, two hectare Garden for the Future at Bendigo Botanic Gardens has been turned!

The ‘ceremonial sod turning’ event was attended by the Mayor, Councillors, CEO, Directors, City of Greater Bendigo staff, contractors and representatives of the Friends of Bendigo Botanic Gardens and the Bendigo Northern District Community Enterprise.

The new garden will include a stage and grassed amphitheatre for outdoor performances and cinema, new toilet facilities, and a number of semi-intimate gathering spaces for weddings and corporate functions as well as a promenade that can be used for markets and other events.

In addition, the garden will also be the most botanically intensive section of the Gardens with an incredible collection of over 600 varieties of plants.

The project is expected to be completed in early 2018.
