Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme Review

City photo collage on orange background

The City of Greater Bendigo has reviewed the Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme to ensure it is up to date and relevant to our community.

The Planning Scheme is important because it affects how you can use and develop your land. It is a legal document that sets out the objectives, policies and controls for land use and development of land in Greater Bendigo. It also includes State Government controls, as well as local policies and a strategic vision specific to Greater Bendigo.

All Victorian local government areas are covered by a planning scheme.

The review of the Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme involved analysing the local parts of the Planning Scheme including the Municipal Strategic Statement, local planning policies and zones, overlays, and provisions. These are the tools that are used to determine how best to use, develop and protect land within the municipality.

The review covered a range of policy themes including:

  • Where we live and work
  • Environment
  • Economy
  • Transport
  • Infrastructure

Following extensive community consultation, the Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme Review was adopted by Council at it March 2019 council meeting. The appendices to the Review are also available.

The Review will now be forwarded to the Minister for Planning and the City will commence a planning scheme amendment to include the Review's recommendations into the Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme.
