Bendigo Health has recently undergone a $630M redevelopment, making it the largest regional hospital development in Victoria.
The hospital now provides a number of new features such as;
- 372 inpatient unit beds
- 72 same day acute beds
- An 80 bed integrated psychiatric inpatient unit, including a parent-infant unit
- 11 operating theatres
- A regional integrated cancer centre
- A multi-deck car park
- A 100-place childcare centre
- An affordable accommodation hub, with 15 short-stay units
- A 128 room accommodation hotel
- Conference facilities
- Retail shops and cafes
The hospital has presented new opportunities for higher education in Greater Bendigo such as the new proposed joint venture between La Trobe University and the Charles Sturt University, the Murray Darling Medical School.
St John of God
St John of God Bendigo has completed a $40M redevelopment of their Lily Street wing. The hospital has two brand new integrated operating theatres and an additional 44 beds across all disciplines, a large theatre recovery, a new sterilising department and many other refurbishments.
The project also saw black spot funding approved, which saw upgrades to road infrastructure around the hospital, increased access to the hospital and improved vehicle and pedestrian safety.
Health and Social Assistance Government Departments
There are many government departments located in Greater Bendigo such as the Department of Employment, Department of Social Services, Centrelink, Department of Health and Department of Human Services.
Bendigo also houses a regional office for the National Disability Insurance Scheme agency.
The healthcare and social assistance industry is valued at $747M per annum and employs 17.3% (6511 people) across Greater Bendigo.
