Growing our Agriculture Sector

The Greater Bendigo region has a diverse and thriving food, fibre, fodder and wines sector.

A prosperous agricultural sector is:

  • critical to create new career opportunities, and
  • provides equal access to locally produced food for the Greater Bendigo region.

Key commodities in the region are sheep and wool ($132M), lambs ($105M) and pigs ($54M). These commodities together represent 47% of the agricultural production in the region.

There is also a flourishing artisanal agriculture sector in the Central Victorian region. In 2020, 4,400 people were employed in the agriculture, forestry and fishing sectors, representing 6% of the regions workforce.
