Reduce your costs through waste management
Attention all business owners! Did you know you could save money and reduce waste to landfill at the same time?
Although businesses may not think they generate much waste, commercial and industrial (C&I) and construction and demolition (C&D) waste for one year accounts for more than 406,300 tonnes across the Loddon Mallee Region! (2013-14, Loddon Mallee Waste and Resource Recovery Implementation Plan 2017)
Every effort counts when it comes to changing our environment and reducing your businesses operational costs.
The City is one of 8 councils involved with the Loddon Mallee Waste and Resource Recovery Group (LMWRRG). LMWRRG has created the Loddon Mallee Waste and Resource Recovery Implementation Plan 2016 – 2026 to assist councils in implementing waste and resource recovery infrastructure needs.
The implementation plan lists a number of business related actions to address the increasing amount of landfill being created.
Business operators can heavily reduce their costs by implementing waste and recycling strategies that minimise commercial and industrial waste, as well as construction and demolition waste.
Some of the business related initiatives currently promoted by LMWRRG include:
Kerbside Pride aims to reduce expenses for businesses through recycling systems.
Receive a free onsite assessment for business owners and managers to discuss appropriate waste management.
LMWRRG in conjunction with the City can help improve your waste management disposal methods by:
Reviewing current arrangements and assessing how much of your general waste can be recycled.
Developing and implementing a waste action plan using results from a waste audit
Providing a follow up audit after 6-12 months to assess your progress
Assisting in gathering resources up to the value of $1,000 to support the implementation of your waste action plan (funding is limited and subject to conditions)
Providing ongoing support from an assigned Project Officer
Providing advice on ultimate bin systems to educate and encourage staff to dispose of waste correctly.

drumMuster is a national program that collects and recycles clean, empty farm chemical containers.
Plasback aims to reduce costs for silage operators by providing a specific liner system that can be recycled in Australia instead of sending it overseas for processing.
Whether you’re a builder with construction and demolition waste, a retailer with recycling or a café who needs to dispose of commercial and industrial waste on a daily basis, the LMWRRG can work with you to try and find a solution and reduce the cost to your pocket and the impact on the environment.
