Climate Change and Environment Strategy 2021-26
The Climate Change and Environment Strategy 2021-2026 establishes Council’s high level strategic direction for tackling climate change and protecting and enhancing the natural environment.
The strategy includes six themes:
- Biodiversity and regeneration
- Zero carbon
- Circular economy
- Sustainable and active transport
- Sustainable food systems
- Water sensitive Bendigo
The strategy also includes six flagship projects:
- Reimagining Bendigo Creek
- Showcasing Sustainable Development
- Healing Country
- Circular Greater Bendigo
- Be the Change
- Greater Bendigo Climate Collaboration

Council reports annually on progress to implement the Strategy through its Annual Environment Report
Biodiversity Strategy
Council is currently preparing a Biodiversity Strategy which will establish a vision for biodiversity conservation across the City of Greater Bendigo and identify priority actions and biolink areas to achieve this vision.
Preliminary consultation occurred in late 2022 which will inform the development of the strategy. The draft Strategy is scheduled to be released for public feedback in mid 2023.

Zero Emissions Plan for City Operations
Council has prepared a plan that sets out a program of work to achieve the organisation’s goal of zero net emissions by 2030.

City of Greater Bendigo Zero Emissions Roadmap
Council, through the Greater Bendigo Climate Collaboration is preparing a roadmap that sets the City on the pathway to achieve zero emissions by 2030. A draft roadmap is scheduled to be released for public feedback in mid 2023. Further information about the roadmap is available on the Greater Bendigo Climate Collaboration website
Regional Zero Emissions Roadmap
Council is working with the Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance and Regional Development Victoria to develop a zero emissions roadmap for Central Victoria, the Mallee and the Grampians regions. Further information about the roadmap and the process to develop it is available on the Greater Bendigo Climate Collaboration website
