Botanical Gardens Staff

The City of Greater Bendigo, designs, constructs and maintains many different green spaces to improve the presentation of our city.

These include a diverse range of beautiful parks and gardens for you to enjoy a wide range of activities such as having a picnic, a barbecue, exercising or relaxing in the great outdoors.

City plants

We also manage a range of sites around the CBD including roundabouts, median strips, shop front garden beds and street trees.

Our annual program of works includes:

  • Developing a 'look and feel' for the city's public landscapes to complement buildings and surrounding structures
  • Maintaining gardens and plants through pruning, mulching, watering and replanting
  • Ensuring appropriate plant selection is based on a particular site's micro-climate and local conditions
  • Using low-maintenance and water-saving designs to reduce costs where possible

Sites where you will see our work

Roundabouts at Lyttleton Terrace, Sternberg Street, Chum Street and Plumridge Streets

These highly visible landscapes use water sensitive urban design principles and features succulents and other low-water use plants. They require minimal maintenance and look great all year round.

High Street median strip turf renovations

This project replaced a range of shrubs and grasses to create a neat and green appearance to Bendigo's visitors as they enter the city. These turf based landscapes require minimal maintenance costs to keep them looking good.

Mitchell Street

Turf and trees have added to the amenity value of the urban forest in this very prominent CBD location.

Ulumbarra Theatre gardens

To complement the new theatre, garden beds and turf have been installed around one of Bendigo’s premier sites.

City of Greater Bendigo nursery

We manage a nursery to produce street trees for planting around the city. The nursery isn’t open to the public. We use these plants for displays in the Conservatory in Rosalind Park. Trees are propagated in-house to save money and ensure we grow the right species for our climate and soil types.

Our nursery is accreditation by the Nursery Garden Industry Victoria for meeting guidelines on quality, environmental and OHS criteria.
