Jane Austen - The Be Persuaded Exhibition

Leave feedback

To mark the 200th Anniversary of the passing of Jane Austen, Dressing Australia designed a rare and wonderful exhibition bringing Jane Austen to life in original fashion of the era. An exhibition that follows Jane’s life - and the unforgettable characters she created - from growing up in the 18th century into the era most associated with her - the Regency era. The BE PERSUADED exhibition features rare fashion, accessories and ephemera from the 18th century when Jane was born through to the 1840’s when we lost Jane’s beloved sister Cassandra. An 18th century silk gown, diaphanous Empire line frocks, spencers, capes and shawls, boots, pumps and stockings, bonnets and parasols. Gowns of the 1820’s and 1840’s. And a rare set of twenty seven hand painted watercolours tracking fashion from the 1790’s to 1830.

In January 2018 Bendigo ‘fashionistas’ and ‘Janeites’ will have their opportunity of seeing this locally developed exhibition at historic Dudley House.
