Bendigo Botanic Gardens - Central Hub
The Central Hub is located within the Bendigo Botanic Gardens Precinct, between the Heritage Gardens and the newly established contemporary Gardens for the Future. The Central Hub involves several structural elements, including:
a Visitor Centre building
b Central Plaza
c Ornamental Ponds
The Central Hub buildings and landscaping will form the heart of the Bendigo Botanic Gardens Precinct by punctuating the Gardens’ entrance, forming a central meeting place and providing principal visitor information and amenities. It will present a unique and dramatic visitor experience which encourages people to connect and interact with the landscape and waterscape.
The City of Greater Bendigo released an expression of interest for the design of the Central Hub on February 9, 2019 which closed March 5, 2019 with 12 responses received. The following lead architects and supporting landscape architects were chosen to proceed to the final tender stage:
- e+ Architecture, with Spiire
- GHD Woodhead Architecture
- Jackson, Clements & Burrows Architects, with Site Office
- Peter Elliott Architecture and Urban Design, with Taylor Cullity Lethlean
A tender was released March 23, 2019 and closed May 15, 2019. A contract for design services was executed September 4, 2019 with GHD Woodhead Architecture. The City thanks all respondents for the high quality of their submissions and looks forward to working closely with GHD Woodhead Architecture through the design phase.
The intent is, subject to funding, to complete the build by June 2024.
