Registrations are open for an information session suitable for people buying or building in a Heritage Overlay.
The City of Greater Bendigo is hosting the free session from 5.30pm to 6.30pm on Thursday October 15 at La Trobe Art Institute, 121 View Street, Bendigo.
A Heritage Overlay helps protect places with heritage values and significance while allowing them to continue to be used and enjoyed.
The Heritage Overlay seeks to ensure that new developments understand heritage values and make a positive contribution to the character of the area through high-quality design.
Early discussions with the City Heritage Advisor and planning officers can help identify permit requirements and opportunities for design excellence.
Acting Manager Strategic Planning Bridget Maplestone said the information session is suitable for people who are buying, building or looking at external renovations or additions in a Heritage Overlay.
“A Heritage Overlay does not stop people from improving or extending their property. It helps make sure any changes respect and conserve the heritage character of a building, streetscape, precinct or neighbourhood,” Ms Maplestone said.
“Good heritage outcomes are achieved not by limiting change, but by managing it in a way that balances conservation with community needs.
“This free session is a great chance to hear from the City Heritage Advisor and planners who will explain the process and answer your questions after the presentation.”
