City sends out thousands of pet registration notices

Media release

“In addition, residents who already receive their household rates notice electronically can log into their rates online account, select Account Options then Pet Notices and add the animal notices to their existing account.

“Registration fees go towards the City’s local law services that respond to wandering dogs, dog attacks, nuisance problems like barking dogs, cat trespass and un-owned animals.

“It’s really important pet owners register their pets and know the benefits as pet registration is a basic measure that can help ensure their pet is returned if it gets lost or escapes from a property.

“If pets are unregistered their owner may be liable for unnecessary pound fees if their unregistered pets are reported wandering and our City officers cannot return them directly to their homes.

“Any residents who no longer has a pet that was previously registered, should also contact the City to ensure our records can be updated and we don’t cause distress by sending out notices for deceased animals.”

Residents with any queries should contact the City of Greater Bendigo’s Safe Environments team on 1300 002 642.
