Grants available for local groups to host Christmas meal events

Media release

The City of Greater Bendigo is once again offering grants of up to $1,000 to community groups interested in coordinating local, community meal events focused on inclusion and connection this Christmas.

The grants are aimed at supporting a range of small, local events across Greater Bendigo between December 16 and 26.

City of Greater Bendigo Community Partnerships Manager Andie West said we are really keen for community groups to start thinking now about community meal events they may wish to support at Christmas time and consider applying for this funding.

“Events need to be welcoming and inclusive and take place at a public venue.” Ms West said.

“From 2014 to 2019 a large centralised community Christmas lunch had taken place with the venue, food and food preparation provided by All Seasons Resort.

“Over the past few years, due to Covid-19 we have supported a number of smaller local events which have proven very popular.

“We have received really positive feedback from many people who attended the small, local events and our evaluation data shows that there is a preference for the small, local community event approach to continue.

“The feedback we have received shows that this approach helps to create a greater sense of belonging and more meaningful, enduring connections.”

Applications for funding are now open and will close at 2pm on Friday September 29, 2023.
