The City of Greater Bendigo is calling on the community to suggest locations where street improvements could be potentially undertaken to help make walking and cycling safer, more comfortable and convenient across Greater Bendigo, Marong, Elmore and Heathcote.
City of Greater Bendigo Active and Healthy Communities Manager Amy Johnston said the City is inviting residents to share the locations where they believe simple enhancements could make the greatest difference for walkers and riders.
“The local knowledge of residents will help the City identify streets, routes and destinations that could be considered as priorities for potential future improvements,” Ms Johnston said.
“Improvements could include changing streets to one way vehicle access, full or partial road closures, timed vehicle access changes, installation of pocket parks, planters and bollards to act as physical barriers, safer crossings, measures to slow traffic and temporary trial treatments,” Ms Johnston said.
“This project will build on previous feedback gathered by the City about walking and cycling in 2018, 2024 and 2025 by checking whether past feedback is still current.
“All suggested locations provided will be assessed for road-safety risks and available safety data, past consultation data, site connectivity to schools, university, shops, workplaces and other community destinations, the potential benefits a location could make to a connected walking and cycling network and whether a proposed treatment is low cost and technically suitable for the street.
“This process will help develop a shortlist of priority locations for further investigation and design.”
In the next stage of the project the City will share a list of priority locations and the community will be invited to comment on whether the locations are suitable and if the proposed changes could improve safety and comfort. Nearby residents will also be able to explain how local access may be affected.
Residents can participate by visiting the City’s Let’s Talk community engagement website where they can add a pin to the various maps and tell us about their experiences until Monday September 21, 2026.
